Description
About the Class:
Most young learners—and many delayed learners—are visual thinkers. Traditional literacy instruction often relies on auditory processing, leaving many students struggling to make meaningful connections. Story Pictures, a core method in the Draw-Write-Read™ approach developed at INSL LLC, helps students acquire literacy naturally by first seeing, then telling, drawing, writing, and finally reading their own stories.
In this workshop, Dr. Louise Debreczeny will guide educators through using Story Pictures as a foundation for literacy. By integrating all eight processes of literacy—reading, writing, listening, speaking, thinking, calculating, viewing, and drawing—teachers can support students in attaching meaning to language. This approach empowers students to develop literacy through visual processing, rather than relying on rote memorization or phonics-based guessing.
This class is ideal for preschool and elementary teachers, homeschool educators, and special education professionals looking to incorporate visual strategies into their literacy instruction.
