Our Approach
A Visual Path to Literacy
No two learners are the same—so why should their learning plan be? At INSL LLC, we provide one-on-one customized learning interventions tailored to each student’s unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles.
Why Does it Work?
Because the brain remembers what it understands. This approach supports neuro-diverse learners by engaging their creativity and making literacy a hands-on, engaging experience.
No more frustration. No more guesswork. Just real learning, real confidence, and real results.
Why Drawing Matters in Literacy
Drawing as Our Approach: The Draw-Write-Read Method
At INSL, LLC, we believe that literacy is more than just reading and writing—it’s about building meaning through experiences, visual understanding, and movement. Traditional literacy instruction often focuses on seven core processes: reading, writing, listening, speaking, thinking, calculating, and viewing. While these methods work well for auditory learners, they fail to fully support visual and visual-motor learners—who make up the majority of today’s students. No more frustration. No more guesswork. Just real learning, real confidence, and real results.
That’s why Draw-Write-Read was developed. Dr. Louise Debreczeny recognized that something was missing from literacy instruction: a way for students to use their visual-motor system to engage with language in a way that aligns with how their brains naturally process information. The missing piece? Drawing—not as an art form, but as a structured, expressive literacy tool that pairs with viewing to complete the full spectrum of literacy processes
The 8 Processes of Literacy: Completing the Puzzle
Traditional literacy instruction relies on seven processes
Reading & Writing
Reading takes in information, while writing puts it out. One builds comprehension, the other creates expression.
Thinking & Calculating
Thinking forms ideas, while calculating applies logic to them. One explores possibilities, the other measures outcomes.
Listening & Hearing
Hearing is receiving sound, while listening is making sense of it. One is passive, the other is active understanding.
Viewing & Drawing
Viewing interprets visuals, while drawing creates them. One deciphers meaning, the other brings ideas to life.
However, viewing—a receptive process—lacks a natural expressive counterpart. This is where drawing comes in. Drawing completes the missing literacy process, pairing with viewing to create a well-rounded, fully integrated literacy framework that supports all a literacy process does more than just create pictures—it serves multiple cognitive functions that enhance comprehension and learning:
Instead of holding mental images in their minds, students can see their thoughts on paper, reducing cognitive load and allowing for deeper understanding.
Many students need hand-eye movement to process and retain new information effectively. Neuroscience and evolutionary linguistics both demonstrate the connection between hand movement, vision, and language acquisition.
Unlike phonics-based instruction, which focuses on decoding, Draw-Write-Read builds meaning first. This ensures comprehension before students attempt to read and write complex texts.
How Draw-Write-Read Works
A school designed for neurodiverse learners is the future of education—because what works for neurodiverse students benefits all students. Draw-Write-Read is not just another literacy tool—it is a shift in how we approach learning, ensuring that every student, regardless of their learning style, has access to the building blocks of literacy.
By embracing the 8 complete processes of literacy, we are breaking down barriers, supporting visual and visual-motor learners, and reshaping how literacy is taught in schools worldwide.
At INSL, LLC, we are dedicated to helping educators implement Draw-Write-Read in their classrooms, ensuring that students can build literacy in a way that makes sense to them. Because literacy isn’t just about reading and writing—it’s about understanding, thinking, and creating meaning that lasts a lifetime.
Join us in redefining literacy for the modern learner.
The Power of the Draw-Write-Read Approach
The Draw-Write-Read Approach taps into this natural learning process by guiding learners through each level:
To process and visualize ideas
To build connections and organize thoughts
To reinforce understanding and develop literacy
This method makes learning engaging, accessible, and effective—especially for neuro-diverse learners. By following how the brain naturally learns, we help students think first, then put their thoughts into words, making literacy an exciting and achievable journey.

Personalized Learning Assessments: Unlocking Your Child’s Potential
At INSL LLC, we don’t just test—we discover how your child thinks, learns, and processes information. Our assessments go beyond standard evaluations to uncover their levels of language function, cognitive function, social function, and how they learn best.
Through engaging, student-friendly activities, we assess:
How well do they make sense of stories, conversations, and visual information?
How do they organize thoughts and share ideas?
How do they connect new information to what they already know?
Using real-life discussions, story retelling, and event-based pictures, we build a clear picture of their learning process—not just where they struggle, but where they thrive. This insight allows us to create customized learning strategies that match their unique needs.
